Palazzo Spinolagarden

Malta Independent Sunday, 11 February 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

The Lm300,000 renovation of Palazzo Spinola’s garden in St Julian’s was inaugurated yesterday. Planned by Architect Victoria Valletta of Ray Demicoli & Associates, the garden is enhanced by its forming a sort of backdrop to the baroque palace behind it. Both the fencing enclosing the garden and other structures were kept as lightweight as possible. The garden has two main diagonals that converge to the central structure, which is surrounded by vines that link the garden to the palace and its wine cellars. There is also a water element with random jets of water and playful fountains. One only hopes the site and area will be properly supervised so that the garden does not fall into the disgraceful state it was in before it was taken up by Portomaso. The internal road should also be opened in a few days’ time
