One of the oldest band clubs in Malta, the Society of St Helen’s Palace, Duke of Connaught’s own, Birkirkara is well known for the annual concerts it gives to a packed Sir Temi Zammit Hall at the University of Malta.

This year should be no different. With music ranging from Gustav Holst’s Second Suite in F, to a fantasia from Turandot, to Casta Diva from Norma, to a selection from The Mikado, to John Miles’ Music, the audience are in for a great musical journey taking them from genre to genre.

Guest singers will be Joseph Aquilina, Marvic Aquilina, Marita Bezzina, Marie Therese Vassallo singing the operatic part of the concert (accompanied by Marie Therese Vassallo’s choir) and Helen Micallef singing on the “modern” section of the concert.

The Wallace Pipes and drums will accompany the Duke of Connaught’s band in the renditions of Highland Troop and Last of the Mohicans.

The concert will be held on 24 February at Sir Temi Zammit Auditorium, the University of Malta, Tal-Qroqq.

Audience is requested to be seated by 6.45pm.

No entrance free is charged, but any donation given will be for the Ryan Cilia fund, a child who uses the services of the Eden Foundation.

This concert will mark veteran conductor Andrew Coleiro’s 30th year at the helm of this band.
