Labour Member of the European Parliament, Joseph Muscat met with the newly-elected UEFA President, Michel Platini.
The meeting, which took place in Brussels, focused on the applicability of European Union rules on the sporting world and whether football clubs and players have the right to seek remedy through ordinary justice.
The issue of television rights was also raised, with the Maltese representative arguing that football broadcasts should not become a luxury service. A balance must be struck with a number of matches that should be available through free-to-air.
The meeting also tackled racism and violence during sporting events, especially following the murder of a police officer in Sicily.
Joseph Muscat met Michel Platini in his function as a member of a group of parliamentarians active in sports policy.
