A parked car was extensively damaged after it caught fire in Wied Ghollieqa Street, Kappara yesterday evening.

The police said that they were alerted after an explosion was heard in the locality at around 8pm.

Members of the Police and the Civil Protection Department went on site and found a Peugeot 306 on fire. Although the fire was put out, the vehicle sustained extensive damage. No-one was injured in the incident.

Informed sources said that arson is being suspected.

Duty Magistrate Dr Audrey Demicoli appointed various experts to help in the inquiry.

Police investigations are still under way.
