Nationalist MEP David Casa yesterday paid a visit to student representatives at the University of Malta campus at Tal-Qroqq.

“Students have always believed in the European Union. Now it is time for students to discover further what the EU offers. It is very positive that the number of students applying for EU programmes abroad is on the rise,” said Mr Casa.

The Kunsill ta’ l-iStudenti Universitarji (University Students’ Council) is the oldest national student union in Europe. KSU was founded by Arturo Mercieca (later Chief Justice Sir Arturo Mercieca) in 1901, as the Comitato Permanente Universitario. The student union involved itself in student as well as national politics. KSU represents all students attending the University, Junior College, the Institute of Health Care, Medical School and the Malta Centre of Restoration – on both a national and international level.

Thanks to Malta’s accession to the European Union, Maltese students now may benefit from various programmes such as Erasmus, Socrates and Comenius. These exchanges are giving the possibilities to Maltese students to gain experience and further develop their skills in other member states.
