Arch rivals Fina First and Aercomms registered similar 0 – 8 victories in week six of the current Middlesea Valletta Life National League being played at the Eden SuperBowl, Fina retaining their eight point lead at the top of Division One while Aercomms move into second place as other results went in their favour.
Union Capital Group picked up six against Sammy’s Embroideries to stay third, and there was a similar result for PharmaVet against Redwell Heating for them to improve from ninth to eighth place. Royal Shock also clinched a six point win against fifth placed HSBC.
Fina First sent out a ‘catch us if you can’ message to their challengers with a high-rolling 100 per cent victory over highly experienced Ramis in week six, as they shot the highest team series of the week (2499) in the process.
The Fina stars had an easy time of it in the first two of the three game series, winning 732 – 788 and 777 – 888 respectively, before Ramis came close to stealing a two point share in game three which they lost by just seven pins, 816 – 823 the game score with Fina having Sue Abela’s excellent 258 effort to thank for the win.
Sue finished with an outstanding 697 series to claim the honours of female Bowler of the Week, while her male counterpart was team mate Mark Spiteri with a solid 639 effort. Benny Hili (Ramis), 587.
Aercomms are back in second place after their convincing 0 – 8 win over Redwell Heating, to keep up their challenge on defending champions Fina First’s position. The opener was a close encounter, Aercomms just scraping through with a four-pin advantage (764 – 768), but game two saw them double their lead with slightly greater ease 781 – 822 the game score.
Redwell only needed to win game three by 46 pins or more to tie the match, but Aercomms were too god for them, shooting a big 874 against Redwell’s poor 667 to complete the whitewash. Rankin Camilleri (Aercomms), 638. Joanna Attard (Redwell Heating), 541.
Union Capital Group are third after their 6 – 2 win over Sammy’s Embroideries, but are level on 32 points with Aercomms. Union Capital were 99 ahead on the series after taking game one with a great 808 against Sammys’ 709, before making it 4 – 0 in a contrastingly low 671 – 632 second game. Sammy's Embroideries two point share came from a 709 – 722 win in game three, the series points going to Union Capital for their 126 pin advantage (2188 – 2062). Neil Sullivan (Union Capital), 594. PharmaVet also picked up a six point victory over FireBalls, moving into eighth place while the losing side slip to ninth with the result. PharmaVet opened the scoring with sound 638 – 777 win in game one, but it was soon 2 – 2 after FireBalls scooped a closer 722 – 704 equaliser in game two.
PharmaVet had the pinfall advantage as the deciding third game rolled off, and won it 706 – 720 to clinch the match 2 – 6. Colin Attard (PharmaVet), 537. Dean Micallef (FireBalls), 510.
The final match of week six resulted in a 2 – 6 win for Royal Shock against HSBC. Game one saw a big 792 – 639 win for HSBC, but their game dropped to a low 661 in game two which saw Royal Shock draw level thanks to their 746 effort.
