Malta Independent Monday, 26 February 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Maria Mater Gratiæ Philharmonic Band of Zabbar is holding a musical concert at the Notre Dame Theatre in Zabbar on 11 March, devoted entirely to movie soundtracks. During the concert, called MMG goes Hollywood, the band, directed by Mro Ray Sciberras, will be taking the audience around a whole evolution of cinema music ranging from the old Charlie Chaplin films to more contemporary productions.

The concert kicks-off at 7.30pm with the 20th Century Fox Fanfarre followed by a random collection from the Charlie Chaplin movies. The pre-war age group will then be entertained with Ernest Gold’s music in the film Exodus followed by Lawrence of Arabia and Dr Zhivago, both masterpieced by composer Maurice Jarr.

Many other compositions follow, including music from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Beauty and the Beast, First Night, Air Force One, and the main theme from Rudy and Startrek.

The concert comes to an end with the Parade of the Charioteers of Miklos Rozsa from the classical Ben-Hur.

Entrance is free of charge.
