Pieta bagged the first points of the Relegation Pool when they easily beat Marsa by two clear goals. The points earned put Pieta on nine points with Marsa, still in search of their first win, now practically doomed to play first division football next season.
Pieta were in a class of their own against a sorry Marsa side who were never in the game. Marsa's only flash came on 65 minutes when they had a good chance to get back into the match but Achukwu failed to convert a penalty.
Marsa were very poor yesterday and were never in the match. They lacked vision of play and determination and were outplayed in midfield. The inclusion of Gilbert Martin can be Marsa's only ray of hope for the forthcoming matches.
On their part Pieta were in full splendour yesterday with Martin Deanov showing flashes of sheer class. Herrera and Kondev played their hearts out and together with Deanov formed the pillars of Pieta's success.
With Kokavessis, Deanov and Provenzano roaming all over the place, the Marsa was put under early pressure with their goalkeeper saving a close range header from Galabov.
Marsa's first attempt came on 17 minutes with Cucciardi blasting over the bar from the edge of the area. However Pieta's pressure and dominance gave its fruit on 25 minutes when defender David Camenzuli headed beautifully in a well taken freekick by Martin Deanov.
With Pieta in full command David Camenzuli went close again with another header from a Deanov corner. On 35 minutes a Kondev bombshell from the edge of the area went inches wide.
Two minutes later Marsa had their first real chance with Bellia shooting over the bar following a Pieta defensive blunder. On the other end Pieta produced a breath taking move with Provenzano's final shot tipped by Debono.
The second half started with Pieta missing a golden opportunity when Kokavessis missed a sitter in front of goal. Marsa introduced Gilbert Martin after a long absence, and on the hour a Kondev freekick was blocked by goalkeeper Debono.
On 62 minutes Pieta doubled the score when Edward Herrera passed to Martin Deanov who slotted the ball underneath goalkeeper Debono.
Three minutes later in a rare Marsa attack, Gilbert Martin dribbled past defender Camenzuli who tripped the Marsa striker but from the resultant penalty Achukwu's weak shot was well saved by Andrew Hogg. Kevin Scerri sent a dangerous free-kick over the bar.
In the remaining minutes Pieta controlled with relative ease Marsa's feeble attempts, and the Hotspurs could have added further goals through Kokavessis who was surely not at his best yesterday.
