An absolute majority of Bank of Valletta (BOV) employees agree that the management should give joint recognition to the Malta Union of Bank Employees and the General Workers’ Union (GWU), according to a survey.

The Professionals, Finance and Services Section of the GWU said it conducted the survey on a random sample of 10 per cent of BOV workers. The survey showed that 76 per cent of interviewees were in favour of such recognition and that five per cent were against, five per cent were unsure and 14 per cent did not give an answer.

Interviewees were also asked whether they were satisfied with their current pay and grade. Forty-four per cent said they were satisfied, 42 per cent said they were not, while 14 per cent refused to answer the question.

The margin of error for the exercise stood at plus or minus two per cent.

The section said it proposed joint recognition after it learned that there was no absolute majority of employees represented by one union.
