The university students’ council (KSU), under the patronage of the Tourism and Culture Ministry, is organising “One World Week”, aimed at bringing out the fusion of cultures at university.

“One World Week” has become an annual event on KSU’s calendar and the focuses for this year’s edition are mobility for the purposes of work or study, international cultural awareness and fair trade.

Tourism and Culture Minister Francis Zammit Dimech attended the opening of the event yesterday morning and visited the stands that have been set up at the university quadrangle.

Speaking to members of the media, the minister said the 1,000 or so foreign students at university, as well as Maltese students following courses abroad, were contributing to inter-cultural exchange that formed an essential part of one’s educational formation.

Entities that are making their presence felt on campus throughout this week include The European Job Mobility Portal (Eures) and NSTS – Student and Youth Travel.

The local representatives of international student organisations and other entities have also set up stands on campus. These include AEGEE Valletta, ELSA Malta, JEF Malta, IAESTE, AISEC, Amnesty International and the Commission for Fair Trading.

KSU international office representatives Veronique Muscat and Christine Murphy said the KSU strongly believed in the advantages of student mobility – spending some time away from Malta could prove to be an enriching experience, both personally and professionally.

“One World Week” will also include an information session – organised in collaboration with Forum Malta fl-Ewropa – for those wishing to work or study in Europe. This activity will be held in the university common room tomorrow at 11.15am.

KSU will also be organising an inter-faith dialogue today at 12.30pm at the quadrangle.

Other activities that will be organised as part of “One World Week” include a quiz night tomorrow and a wine-tasting activity on Friday. Both events will be held in the common room at 8.30pm and booking is highly recommended.
