The international floating bookshop Logos II will be berthing at the Valletta Waterfront on Friday when it opens its floating bookfair, hosted by Captain Nick Lewis and director Dale Rhoton from the United States.
Logos II is operated by the Educational Book Exhibits Ltd, a non-profit charity organisation, and is manned by an all-volunteer crew of 200 young people representing over 45 countries. The ship will berth at the Valletta Waterfront until 30 March.
The floating bookshop has been widely acclaimed as a genuine expression of international understanding and goodwill, sharing a diversity of culture and promoting education.
Logos II and its sister ship mv Doulos have already visited Malta a number of times. The visit is also a homecoming – Logos II is a Maltese-registered ship and flies the Maltese maritime flag around the world. In each port the ship visits, time is given to social and community work, and its visit to Malta is no exception. The crew will be partnering with Sedqa, the national agency against drug and alcohol abuse, in activities promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Since 1989, Logos II has visited more than 290 different ports in more than 76 countries and has welcomed over eight million visitors on board. Logos II is a significant attraction in most of the ports she visits.
In addition to browsing and purchasing books from a selection of 5,000 titles, there are many other reasons for visitors to call on Logos II. Throughout her stay, a number of fun events specifically designed with families in mind will take place on board each weekend. The programme is as follows:
