The fourth edition of Live at Luxol begins this Saturday with a battle of the bands for university students. A record number of six bands have applied to take part in this reawakened event. The bands to battle it out on stage are: It All Started When Someone Stole the Cheese, Relic, No Leaf Clover, I’ll Tell You Later, Sublime and Drive.

The event will begin at 10pm on Saturday. It is a good start for budding students who want to break into the music scene. The event, to be held at the Luxol Club, should pull a great audience and deliver a mixture of buzz, originality and some raw talent. The voting will be divided into two parts: 50 per cent left in the hands of judges – gurus involved in the music scene – and the other 50 per cent left to the patrons. Each guest will be entitled to one voting card which can be used once the votes are cast.

The encouraging response by the numerous bands on campus is due to the fact that such an event encourages student participation in a number of sectors, for instance stage crew, photography, and organisation teams. It raises money in aid of student musical talent (giving student bands a number of vouchers that will help them purchase music equipment) and, mostly, it encourages students to perform in front of a live, prolific student crowd.
