The National Commission for Persons with a Disability (KNDP) rubbished claims made by opposition MP Marie Louise Coleiro Preca who was quoted in the media as having said that the KNDP was “ignored” and “put in the rubbish bin” after having made various submissions to the government.
The KNDP said it was true that not all its recommendations were taken up by various governments over the years, but this could in no way be interpreted as meaning all suggestions made were ignored.
The commission said that disability could strike any family and did not distinguish between anyone, which was all the more reason to ensure that the issue was not politicised.
For this reason, one should not only focus on the negative findings of the KNDP’s 2006 report. The report made suggestions where improvements could be made, but also highlighted positive points, the KNDP said.
Moreover, it added, its report focused only on the work of the KNDP itself and not what the government or its entities had implemented.
