New Commissioner For Children appointed

Carmen Zammit yesterday was appointed Commissioner for Children by the Family and Social Solidarity Ministry.

Ms Zammit will replace outgoing commissioner Sonia Camilleri who occupied the position for the past three years.

Ms Camilleri’s term ended on 15 December and had already informed the Office of the Prime Minister and the ministry that she did not wish to be reappointed, saying there where shortcomings in the law which hindered her in her work.

Ms Zammit has extensive experience working with children as well as within the field of social services, and has studied Social Work Management at the University of Malta. She has a diploma in Social Assistance from the Scuola Superiore di Servizio Sociale in Reggio Calabria, Italy.

Recently she was the Director of the Department for Family Welfare and was also a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta and The Malta University Services.
