From Mr M.A. Sammut
Daphne Caruana Galizia has been writing since 1990 (or thereabouts), hasn’t she? She has done her best to regale us with very little good, some bad, and a lot of ugly writing... (Her first column was entitled The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, if my memory serves me right...)
She has spent 17 whole years telling us what she thinks on every subject under the sun, without contributing anything to the national GDP or to the “national index of happiness”! Doesn’t she think that now, after 17 years of all this, it’s high time she sought pastures new to allow younger, and perhaps better writers to comment about politics and other subjects of public interest?
There would be an added bonus if she were to opt for early retirement. Our sense of aesthetics would be spared the prolonged offence caused by her photo! (It’s not her fault, of course, but still she’s a bit uneasy on the eye... at least on my eye, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder! To be sure, many of us readers could be a far cry from being replicas of the Greek god of male beauty, Adonis. But then our close-ups don’t appear every single Sunday on newspapers while people are having their breakfast!)
There is a vast, silent majority out there whose sigh of relief would be heard from far, far away.
