From Mr F. Formosa PhC
A great deal has been said and written, especially in a particular section of the local press, about the merits or otherwise of the Park & Ride scheme. It was declared to be a waste of public funds, “money down the drain”. For a few weeks after the opening of this amenity, photos of a car park practically devoid of cars were displayed daily in both certain newspapers and on TV stations.
Nowadays, not one single parking space is to be found most of the time. One has either to wait for some time, or else proceed to the car park in front of the Phoenicia, where one has to pay well over Lm1 for a few hours’ stay.
I believe it would be a good idea if a small fee, say one euro (or, to start off with, 25c) were to be charged. I feel certain that no one in his right mind would begrudge having to pay such a paltry sum for being able to use such a wonderful amenity. In this way, part of the huge sum of money being spent daily may be recovered.
I wish to congratulate all those concerned who created, established and are operating the Park & Ride scheme. Perhaps, in the near future, you will come up with more of the same.
Francis Formosa
