Ta’ Soldi Rabat’s triumphal march towards their sixth consecutive title continued on Sunday when they brushed aside, extremely convincingly, the challenge put up by Poiatti Qormi. The final score of 4-1 says it all as Ta’ Soldi made it seven out of seven.
Today they finish off their second round commitments with a game against The Hunters Tower who, on paper, are their closest rivals but who, at the moment, are languishing, albeit with two games in hand, 12 points adrift.
Victory for Rabat today will leave them needing three points from the third round. In the first game of the day BDO Hs and Britannia Tours drew 2-2, a draw which left both teams looking for their first win of the season.
Ta’ Soldi Rabat lead the standings on a maximum 21 points. The Hunters Tower and Pasta Poiatti are joint second with nine. BDO Hs and Britannia Tours WH have two points each.
Ta’ Soldi started well against Poiatti and after eight minutes were already in the lead as James Azzopardi flicked in beautifully following a short corner.
Rabat kept up the early pressure and it was only after the 20th minute that Poiatti began to put together some sort of reaction mainly through Jonathan Borg. Ta’ Soldi, however, killed the game with two quick goals at the end of the half. First, Jason Vella finished off an excellent combination between Josef Antonelli and Jonathan Seychell.
Then it was Seychell who, on the stroke of half time, fired in goal number three. The second half was played out at a good pace with Ta’ Soldi getting goal number four in the 18th minute and Poiatti scoring a consolation goal five minutes from time through Jonathan Borg.

For Britannia Tours, coming after the 7-2 defeat at the hands of Ta’ Soldi, this was a good game as they were only a few minutes away from picking up the three points.
For BDO Hs it was more of the same as the team struggled to function as a cohesive unit with most players more often then not trying to take on their opponents single handed.
They took an early lead thanks to a fine individual goal from their captain Michael Caruana Smith but were pegged back before half time when Britannia Tours caught them on the break and Reno Bianchi notched up his second goal in two matches following some good work by Luke Borg Costanzi.
Britannia Tours then took the lead early in the second half through Paul Torpiano and, despite heavy BDO pressure, seemed heading for victory until a few minutes from the final whistle when Sandro Bartolo was quick to pick up a rebound an score the equaliser.
