The Roads Minister is concerned about the low quality of some patching (TMID, 1 March). I fully agree. In fact all the potholes in Floriana have been patched up with stone spalls, which are only used in third-world countries.

The order should be that hot asphalt should be used and not haphazardly thrown stone spalls, as these are a danger to pedestrians.

I ask the minister why Floriana is the only locality that has not been included for residential road asphalting, especially in areas where tourists start their walk to the capital, Valletta.

This is a shame. I would invite him or his director general to walk with me from the Middlesea Office to the chaotic bus terminus. To add insult to injury, I sent details in a memo to the Malta Transport Authority on how to improve this dangerous area, but after a couple of years, when I was a local councillor, despite my continuous prodding, they did nothing, even in Crucifix Hill, which bus-loads of tourists pass daily. Is this because Floriana has less than 2,000 votes so parliamentarians take a couldn’t care less attitude?
