Malta Squash’s recently appointed European Squash Federation Coaches namely Liz Said, Steve Rizzo and Ivan Balzan have embarked on continuing with the Elite Juniors and Junior Development Scheme kindly sponsored by Malta International Airport through Malta Sports Council. Malta Squash has also appointed national Team player and qualified PE instructor Johanna Rizzo as the Physical Trainer for this scheme.
The squad includes Mark Schranz winner of the under 13 Boys Junior Open 2006, Colette Sultana winner of the under 13 Girls Junior Open 2006 , Mark Seychel winner of the under 17 mixed Junior Open 2007 as well as John Cuschieri, Ryan Rizzo, Stephanie Schranz, Lara Camilleri, Sam Mangion and Richard Puglisevich all achieving the desired standards to be able to take part in this scheme.
All these students are undergoing weekly private coaching, group coaching, mentoring and physical training at the Marsa Sports and Country club. The program will this year continue throughout the year with the peak being reached in the Junior Malta Open in May.
Malta Squash is proud to announce that Colette Sultana and Mark Seychell will be the first Maltese Juniors to participate in an international open in Vienna in March. This will be a useful experience for these aspiring athletes. It is the first of a serious of international events which all pupils will be able to compete in, in the future and which will give them the necessary exposure on the international scene.
