The Malta Society of Model Makers is organising an exhibition of a vast range of model ships, warplanes and tanks of various scales. The models are on displayed at the Catholic Institute, Floriana, from Friday, 16 to Monday, 19 March from 9am to 8pm.

This year there are more than 300 models are being exhibited, ranging from standard model kits to very complex and elaborate built-from-scratch radio-controlled model boats.

Among the various new models on display this year, will be three new radio-controlled model boats. These are the C27 and the C38, which are ex-patrol boats of the Armed Forces of Malta’s Maritime Squadron, and the P61 Diciotti class, which is the latest and most modern patrol boat in the Maritime Squadron. Apart from being radio-controlled, the P61 model boat is fully loaded with electronic circuitry controlling several function such as radar and inboard lights.

The Malta Society of Model Makers was founded in 2004, since when it has organised an exhibition each year. In the last two years the society has established good contacts and also attended various other exhibitions in collaboration with other clubs, both locally and abroad. The main aim of the society remains purely to support and help young modellers achieve better modelling techniques and results. The society achieves this by holding regular meetings and lectures, which involve interaction between different modellers of various levels of experience.

The aim of the society’s exhibition is to give a better idea of the work involved in building models from kits. It also gives a better insight into the good reputation that Maltese modellers have managed to acquire over the years, both locally and at international level.

During the exhibition,

visitors will have an opportunity to talk directly with the modellers and get free advice and information on the subject.
