Academic Lecture on ‘Compulsory Retirement and Old Age’

The Maltese Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics is organising an academic lecture for professionals entitled Compulsory Retirement and Old Age, given by Professor Rajagopal Dhar Chakraborti.

Professor Chakraborti has been professor of economics and demography in the Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies, Calcutta University since August 2002. He was a visiting professor at the Department of Management, Tianjin University, the Institute of Population and Development, Nankai University, and the Renmin University, all in China.

He will soon be joining St Thomas University in Canada as a visiting chair in the Department of Gerontology.

Prof. Chakraborti studied at Calcutta University, The London School of Economics and The East West Center in Hawaii, and has taught at the Centre for Development Studies, Trivandrum, and St Xavier’s College, Calcutta, and various other institutions in India and abroad. He was also the Deputy Registrar of Calcutta University. A former Visiting Fellow of the London School of Economics and Political Science, Prof. Chakraborti is the recipient of the prestigious Asia Fellowship and The Wellcome Trust Post Doctoral Fellowship. Widely travelled, Prof. Chakraborti has several publications on the subject of ageing.
