Malta Independent Thursday, 15 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Flimkien (Together) is the motto selected for the celebrations being held to mark the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome.

As part of the celebrations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany have teamed up with the National Orchestra of Malta for the performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s masterpiece, the Symphony No. 9 in D minor Op.125, also known as the Choral Symphony, on Tuesday 3 April at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta.

The selected work for the concert has particular significance because the famous choral theme from the work’s final movement had been adopted as the official anthem of the European Union.

Under the direction of its music director, Michael Laus, the National Orchestra will be flanked by an international cast of soloists – Miriam Gauci (soprano), Claire Massa (mezzo), Reiner Goldberg (tenor) and Roman Grübner (bass) – the Collegium Musicum and the University Vocal Ensemble (Choir Master: Dion Buhagiar).

Tickets at Lm12, Lm10, Lm8, or Lm6 (VAT included) may be booked by email to

[email protected] or on tel.: 2559-5751 as from Tuesday. A limited number of tickets at a discounted price will be made available to students and senior citizens on a first come, first served basis. The concert starts at 7.30pm and is being supported by Bank of Valletta.
