Australian author, broadcaster and feminist extraordinaire Germaine Greer once wrote that “a garden is the best alternative therapy.” With this gist of good health in mind and the upcoming Earth Garden Festival in Ta’ Qali to look forward to, the combination of fresh air, art and an alternative kind of entertainment has to be something to look forward to. Spread over two days in the first weekend of May (Saturday 5 May and Sunday 6 May), the festival will feature open-air musical performances and artistic exhibitions from some of the best local talent, with countless other activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness in a family-orientated setting.
Earth Garden is a brand new concept that takes it cue from the vitality of spring, embracing a colourful and cultural variety of Maltese talent and presenting it to the public in an innovative way. The people behind this project are all seasoned in the field of entertainment; a team made up of experts from Exit Events (which launched the memorable Tribù Festivals), Tribalimusic and D.Artz, have come together to produce a weekend that will be brimming with activity and entertainment! The Open Village will host various arts and crafts exhibitions along with drama, photography, short films, documentaries, workshops, world cuisine, an ethnic market and a Mind, Body and Spirit section. Furthermore, Mepa and the Ministry for the Environment and Rural Affairs will also be holding a Spring Fair in the village.
This multi-lateral and indisputably dynamic event will then take on a new aspect as the sun sets and preparations start for the highlight of the festival. The Greek Theatre in Ta’ Qali will come alive with special performances from the likes of Renzo Spiteri, Tribali, Nafra and Etnika – all well-loved musicians with an unshakable reputation for onstage radiance and vitality, whose collective presence will surely prove to be a huge success.
Tickets for the event cost either Lm6.50 per night or Lm10 for both nights. For more information, visit www.earthgarden.com.
