Messages purporting to come from disgruntled, including Nationalist, GRTU members have reached our office.

They insist that GRTU – The Chamber of SMEs in Malta, employs people as staff. “Vince Farrugia is NOT, and we repeat NOT the GRTU head or chief... he is employed as director general with GRTU and his employment is confirmed every year.”

The sources added it is painful to see the press call him GRTU head, or GRTU chief or GRTU Secretary General. He is employed as a director general... full stop.

The president, head, chief executive of GRTU is Paul Abela. He, like all other council members, is elected.

However, the sources added, the question remains: Do they have control over what Vince Farrugia says? Do the council members approve of his recent pronouncements?

To which the same sources themselves replied: “No, they do not. But they do not tell him... because they are afraid of him.”
