Maltese shooter William Chetcuti will be in action today at the Santo Domingo Double Trap World Cup, where he will be seeking qualification for next year’s Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Chetcuti is accompanied by his coach Jimmy Bugeja and the Federation President, Salvu Portelli.

In the morning, the shooters will aim at 150 targets. The top six will reach the final which will be staged over another 50 targets in the afternoon.

There will be one qualifier from this event. So far, from the events already held, nine shooters have already qualified for the Olympics as they have obtained their quotas. These hail from Russia 2, China, Estonia, Hungary, India, South Africa, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom, one each.

At the Olympics, each nation is only allowed two quota places per event, that means only two shooters per nation in the Double Trap.

Other World Cup events are scheduled for next month in Changwon, China, Lonato, Italy and Maribor, Slovenia in June, the European Championship in Granada in July and the final event of the year in Kuwait in December.
