A man who is facing criminal proceedings for the murder of Baron Frank Sant Cassia in 1988, and who has been in custody for nearly a year, has been granted bail against a deposit of Lm12,000.
The decision to grant bail to Carmelo Camilleri, 51, from Mosta, was handed down by Chief Justice Vincent De Gaetano after Mr Camilleri’s lawyer filed an application.
Mr Camilleri is charged with shooting Baron Sant Cassia dead on the evening of 27 October 1988 outside his home, Castello Zamitello, in Mgarr. He is also accused of the illegal possession of a firearm.
In his decree, Chief Justice De Gaetano granted Mr Camilleri bail against a deposit of Lm12,000. Moreover, he ordered him to be at home between 7pm and 7am every day, and to report to Mosta police station twice every day.
