The Enemalta Professional Officers Union (EPOU) has noted with satisfaction the apology in Parliament by Investment, Industry and IT Minister Austin Gatt, on behalf of Enemalta, to the engineers involved in the case of the allegedly faulty gas cylinders.
The union said the admission that the corporation had been wrong to blame Enemalta’s engineers went some way to redressing the injustice that was suffered by the individuals involved.
However, it added, the apology fell well short of the full compensation for the legal and administrative expenses incurred in the defence of the case, as requested by the union. Nor did it fully repair the harm that was caused to the image of engineers working at Enemalta Corporation, who perform their duties in the most professional manner.
The EPOU urged Enemalta Corporation to show its appreciation towards the dedication and commitment of its professional staff during negotiations for the finalisation of the collective agreement for the period 2006 to 2010.
