Treaties Of Rome anniversary

Speaker of the House of Representatives Anton Tabone and chairman of the Standing Committee for Foreign and European Affairs Jason Azzopardi, will participate in the activities marking the 50th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome that will be held in Florence and Rome tomorrow and on Friday.

They were invited by Fausto Bertinotti, President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, and Franco Marini, President of the Italian Senate.

The programme of events will include a seminar at the European University Institute at Fiesole as well as a ceremonial event at the Italian Senate in Rome. The seminar in Fiesole will discuss the theme What is Europe lacking?, while the event at the Italian Senate will address two themes: A Political Europe and her role in the world and Parliaments at the heart of the European construction.

Apart from the Presidents of both the Italian Chamber of Deputies and the Italian Senate, the events will be addressed by President of the Italian Council of Ministers Romano Prodi, President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the European Parliament Hans-Gert Poettering and other scholars and European personalities.

Mr Tabone, along with other Parliamentary Speakers, will attend the lunch that will be hosted by President of the Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano at the Quirinale Palace.
