The General Workers’ Union yesterday welcomed the unanimous approval of the SmartCity project by Parliament on Tuesday night.

In a statement, the GWU said the development should increase employment and improve the economy.

The union said it gave all its support to any projects that led to the creation of jobs, adding it hoped that the figure being mentioned, 5,600 jobs, was a promise that could be fulfilled.

It urged the government to see that the educational institutions prepared Maltese students well so as to have as many Maltese employees as possible working at SmartCity.
