Hibernians players Andrew Cohen and Peter Pullicino are the two players who will not be travelling to Chisinau, Moldova, today with the national squad.

They have both withdrawn from the squad as they are injured.

National coach Dusan Fitzel said yesterday this time it was not difficult for him to make his final selection as it was the two players themselves who had requested to be left out of the group of 20 making the trip to Moldova.

It is not yet known whether the two players will be fit in time for next week’s match against Greece at Ta’ Qali.

The coach from the Czech Republic reiterated yesterday that Saturday’s clash will be very difficult not only because our adversaries will be playing in front of their fans making the Moldovans favourites, but also because of a number of injured players, especially flank defenders Ian Ciantar and Steve Wellman.

Fitzel said that in these matches, there should be no defenders, midfielders or strikers. “They all have to pull the same string. And this is where Daniel Bogdanovic has to show that he is not just good at scoring goals. Any player in my side has to roam all over the pitch – where he is needed most. We are ready to help him, but he must also learn to help us. I am confident he could turn out to be a great asset to the side. As to Etienne Barbara, he needs to show us that he is much more intelligent on the pitch. That’s what we expect of our players,” he said.

Agreement has been reached for the Moldova-Malta Euro 2008 qualifier to be transmitted live on Saturday from Chisinau.

Melita Cable will be screening the match on one of its Sports Channels. Transmission will start at 5.45pm. The match kicks off at 6pm.
