The government is ignoring hundreds of bank workers who as a fringe benefit have share options, the General Workers’ Union said yesterday.
These workers, the union pointed out, will at the end of the month be taxed on the shares when these would not have been sold or would not have materialised. The GWU raised the issue in meetings with the parliamentary secretary in the Finance Ministry Tonio Fenech, but the union said the government did not take the matter seriously and no agreement has as yet been reached.
The union said that for the third time, the government had yesterday postponed a meeting to discuss the issue further.
