It was a game which left the spectators held tightly to their seats. The game was a balanced affair through all the hour with D6 leading all the time but unable to take a good lead, thanks to some good shots from Kavallieri’s Natasha Papric.
In the last five minutes D6 succeeded to open a gap of 3 goals in their favour but some hastily taken shots, prompted Kavallieri to go on fast transition reducing the difference to only a goal.
On the last minute, with D6 erroneous in attack, Kavallieri went on another transition winning a penalty, and leveling the score 18-18.
With the last twenty seconds remaining D6 gave a fast throw off with the ball coming to Nadia Haber, who got fouled. With four seconds remaining and a penalty to take, Sue Nygren became the protagonist of D6, netting from the seven meters.
The game was very exciting with both teams showing more confidence in attack and some attractive team play.
It seems that the psychological barrier has been surpassed and these teams are playing a more flowing game.
This augurs well for them in chase for this season’s silverware, namely the Knock Out.
Promotion League
In the men’s promo league D6 started well against La Salle, leading up till the first quarter.
D6’s more passionate approach then began to succumb to the more technical individuals of La Salle.
Having no substitutes available proved to be the fatal doom for D6 when fatigue came in and La Salle’s tactical superiority resulted in a comfortable win of 31-16 for the latter.
In another game from the promotion league Aloysians faced Kavallieri, in what promised to be a tight affair but Aloysians began building the lead slowly as from the first minutes with Kavallieri unable to reply in attack.
Defensively Kavallieri could not reply to James Farrugia, who did a lot of damage in the start making sure Kavallieri loose their confidence and fighting spirit.
Aloysians won the game with a ten goal advantage.
U/16
In the U/16 game D-HS routed Kavallieri confirming their strength and promise of a wonderful future for Maltese handball.
