MEA Defends MHRA

Malta Independent Saturday, 24 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Malta Employers Association has said that no one has the right to use an event organised by someone else for his own personal agenda. It was referring to comments by GRTU director-general Vincent Farrugia who, at an event organised by the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association, called upon the Prime Minister to take over the tourism portfolio from Minister Francis Zammit Dimech.

Mr Farrugia was way out of line, said the association, adding that the MHRA had worked to ensure the long-term sustainability of the sector and recent efforts that it spearheaded were now bearing fruit.

The MEA added that it was neither in the interests of the parties involved, nor of the sector, to have such exchanges in the media.

“There are other avenues where differences can be discussed and settled in the best interest of the sector and tourism in general,” it said.
