A Classical celebration night to remember

Malta Independent Sunday, 25 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The gala opera concert by Miriam Gauci at the Grand Master’s Suite, Hilton, held on 3 March, was a full house event. The organisers, Mediterranean Insurance Brokers (MIB), in collaboration with the Vittoriosa St Lawrence Chapter, were overwhelmed with the public response and overall success of this high calibre event.

Miriam Gauci was in prime form, as she sang in front of a staggering 1,400 guests at the Grand Master’s Suite. She recited some of the most renowned excerpts and songs from Puccini, Bellini, Verdi, Rossini among others. The National Orchestra, conducted by Mro Michael Laus complemented with each excerpt and delivered a number of famous classical pieces between each performance of the internationally acclaimed soprano.

The audience included many distinguished guests and after the concert a lavish reception was held for VIPs at the Portomaso Suite.

“We wanted to celebrate the 30th anniversary of MIB and 20th anniversary Aon in Malta in style and culture,” explained Joe Cutajar, managing director for MIB (exclusive correspondents for Aon in Malta) when addressing guests soon after the concert. The concert also marked the launch of MIB’s new corporate identity, with its new logo and company image re-branding.

Among the many distinguished guests at the event was the President of Malta, the newly appointed Archbishop of Malta and the Bishop of Gozo.

At the end of the event Mr Cutajar presented a cheque for Lm2,080 to the President of Malta, in support of the Community Chest Fund. The money was collected from regular contributions by MIB staff throughout the past year.
