I refer to the article about the nominations for the Chevening scholarships (TMIS, Campus section, 18 March). My sincere congratulations go to the six successful candidates for these awards are definitely in order.

The appointment of the respected Dr George Abela as an external member of the selection panel of these awards was of course a positive move in the circumstances.

The British Council Organisation must have felt compelled to introduce and appoint an independent outsider for their Malta branch after the alleged sham that had been practised in the adjudication of these scholarships in previous years.

On the other hand, the inevitable general conclusion and this by implication, is that the credibility factor in the Chevening Selection Panel, which had been appointed by the British High Commssion in previous years, still persist!
