MEA said in a statement that it has noted with regret the recent public exchange between the GRTU and MHRA.

While everyone has the right to voice their opinion, no one has the right to use an event by either organisation for his own personal agenda. The GRTU Director General was way out of line when he used the recent MHRA event as a platform for his attack on the Malta Tourism Authority. His subsequent attack on the same organisation was totally uncalled for.

The MHRA, which represents the main players in the hotel and catering industry, has always been at the forefront in the development of tourism in Malta. MHRA has always worked with all stakeholders to ensure the long-term sustainability of the sector. The recent efforts, spearheaded by MHRA to give the sector the boost it needed, are now bearing fruit. It has also been at the forefront in the changes needed at the Malta Tourism Authority.

MEA reiterates that it is neither in the interest of the parties nor of the sector to have such exchanges in the media. There are other avenues where differences can be discussed and settled in the best interest of the sector and tourism in general.

MEA joins FOI and Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise in its belief that in such delicate issues, all constituted bodies should act together in the best interest of the country.
