The Leone Band of Victoria has launched a new collection of band music called Dolore, composed by Giovanni Giumarra for this year’s Holy Week. The double CD album has 15 musical pieces varying from band marches to elegies including Al Milite Ignoto, Ai Caudti del 1565, Rassegnazione, A Mio Figlio, and Dolore – the album’s title track.

Giovanni Giumarra was born in Sicily in 1862 and was appointed director of the Leone band in 1923. In 1927 he won a gold medal in an international competition held at Salerno, Italy. He led the band until 1933 when he moved to Malta where he died in 1936.
