Cricket: Marsa In two matches against UK visiting teams Ibstone and Reading Blue Coat School

Over the weekend the Marsa C.C took on two teams from the United Kingdom.

On Saturday, Ibstone C.C won the toss and elected to bowl. John Grima and Joy Ghoseroy opened the batting. Ghoseroy was caught behind in the second over for no runs. Grima went on to make twenty four runs.

Nowell Khosla top scored for the local side with 37 runs including three fours. Next top score was extras with 33 runs.

Nadeem Ashraf batted well for 26 runs including two sixes. The Marsa side totalled 135 runs being bowled out in the 35th from 40 overs.

G.Bridges was the best bowler for the visitors taking four wickets for 12 runs.

In an amazing turn about Marsa managed to bowl out the visitors for 107 runs. The team was inspired by a one handed catch made by Pierre Naudi to dismiss R.Emmett for eight runs.

M.Barrow top scored with 39 runs including a six and four fours. Two other batsmen made it too double figures G.Crowder (11 runs) and W.Downing (17 runs). Nadeem Ashraf was Marsa’s better bowler taking two wickets. Marsa won the one game series.

On Sunday, Marsa played against Reading Blue Coat School, lost the toss and were asked to bowl first. Ben Hurst was first to go out bowled for no runs. Jake Richardson and Sam Hirst put on a match winning partnership of one 118 runs. R

ichardson ended being caught for 50 runs and Hirst was run out for 57 runs. Jack Harris chipped in with a valuable 32 runs. For Marsa Mike Caruana was the most successful bowler with three wickets. Reading totaled 221 runs from the 50 overs allotted.

In reply after a slow start wickets began to fall. Colin Willis made seven runs, Robert Krishna top scored with 29 runs, Tim Wheeler was very unfortunate to be run out without facing a ball and Javed Shah made 20 runs.

The middle order of Mike Smith. Mike Caruana and Nowell Khosla all failed and left the lower order batsmen struggling. Jeya Krishna made 14 runs, Sagar Krishna thirteen runs and Gordon Hewitt ten runs. For the visitors Ross McAdam was the better bowler taking three wickets. Marsa only managed 129 runs. The second game of the two game series will be tomorrow.

At the weekend Marsa take on returning team Cryptics XI for a two game series.
