Marsaxlokk midfielder Gareth Sciberras has had to withdraw from the Malta squad to face Greece tomorrow due to family mourning.
It was announced yesterday morning that his father Anthony had passed away at the age of 64. Just three weeks ago, Sciberras had gone through a similar tragedy as his mother had also passed away.
The funeral is set to be held tomorrow at 8.30am at the San Gwann parish church.
In such circumstances, coach Dusan Fitzel had no other option but to leave him out of the squad.
Instead he can rely on his Marsaxlokk teammate Peter Pullicino who is back to full fitness after missing the Moldova match through injury.
But another player, Andrew Cohen of Hibernians, remained out of the squad, as Fitzel has not named a replacement for Luke Dimech, who will also be missing tomorrow’s match through suspension.
The Marsaxlokk central defender, one of the best players in the team last Saturday, was sent off near the end together with Moldovan substitute Dadu.
