The Martinu String Quartet is giving a recital on Tuesday, 10 April at the Manoel Theatre in Valletta, where it will be joined by clarinettist Angus Meryon to perform works for string quartet and clarinet quintet.

The programme includes the gorgeous Clarinet Quintets by Mozart and Brahms, two of the most beautiful chamber works ever written. These are recognised masterpieces of the genre that are seldom performed. The Martinu String Quartet will also perform Prokofiev’s String Quartet No. 2 and the String Quartet No. 7 by the Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu after whom the quartet is named.

The award-winning Martinu String Quartet was formed in Prague in 1976, and has since achieved an international reputation for excellence. This is the quartet’s second visit to Malta. Angus Meryon is also no stranger here, having performed at the Gozo International Music Festival last year. He has also recorded works by the Maltese composer Joe Vella.
