In the girls’ singles Malta’s top girl, Elaine Genovese, registered a convincing 6-2, 6-1 win over Alessandra Pickerill of the US.

Today, she will have a hard nut to crack in Jennifer Ren from Great Britain who has won her matches with ease.

On the other hand 14-year-old Kimberly Cassar, after a bad 2-6 opening set, settled down and steadily climbed to a 4-1 lead. Her opponent Sofie Oyen, from Belgium, regained composure and bridged the deficit to eventually win 6-4.

Matija Pecotic, who forms part of Malta’s national team, lost 3-6, 4-6 to a stonewall opponent, Jordan McCulloch, from Great Britain.
