Malta’s youngsters maintained the country’s magic moment yesterday as the came from behind to register a splendid 2-1 o ver visiting Sweden in a friendly match at the Hibernians Ground at Corradino.
It was another strong injection to local football after the 1-1 draw obtained by the senior side in a European Championship qualifer in Chisinau, Moldova, last Saturday.
The Swedes appeared to be a stronger side in the first half, but the Maltese came back into the game in the second half after securing a late first half equaliser. And after scoring again early in the second half, they battled hard till the end as they held on for an encouraging win.
Sweden deservedly took the lead on 21 minutes through Nafver who beat Montfort with a shot from the edge of the area. Malta equalised on the stroke of half time through Dyson Falzon and then Ian Zammit scored what proved to be the winner on 51 minutes.
