Malta Independent Thursday, 29 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

A Health and Safety exhibition is being held by Gozitan schools at the Sports Complex in Victoria, aimed at increasing health and safety awareness in everyday life as well as further educating the public about the importance of creating a safer and healthier environment for students and staff in schools.

Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono, who inaugurated it, said the inclusion of health and safety as a subject in the curriculum had been welcomed by students, parents and educators alike and that it was everyone’s collective responsibility to see that children were taught the importance of taking health and safety issues seriously.

The exhibition consists of a number of stands by various entities, charts compiled by students in the Gozo College, workshops run by secondary-school students as well as a number of demonstrations by non-profit making organisations, including a Police Dog Show, a First Aid demonstration by the Red Cross as well as an abseiling and fire-fighting show by the Civil Protection Unit.

An powerpoint presentation will also be running throughout the exhibition. The Gozo College is also organising a competition consisting of four events in which a group of students from all state and Church schools will participate.

The exhibition is on till tomorrow.
