Court: Immigrant Accused of slightly injuring public officers

A Sierra Leone irregular immigrant was charged yesterday with slightly injuring two public officers at Lyster Barracks on Wednesday.

Akinola Johnson, 34, pleaded not guilty to assaulting and threatening sergeant Marco Sayan and casual officer William Plant. He was also charged with damaging movable or immovable property, inciting an assembly of 10 or more people, forming part of this group with the intent of committing an offence and breaching the peace.

The accused was denied bail and remanded in custody.

Magistrate Lawrence Quintano presided over the court. Police inspector Johann J. Fenech prosecuted and Dr Mark Busuttil appeared for the accused.
