Malta Independent Monday, 2 April 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The celebrations that started in January to mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malta and China came to an end last Sunday, when a group of young Maltese musicians performed during a Chinese musical concert in the ballroom of the Radisson Bay Hotel in St Julian’s.

The eight Maltese musicians played a number of delightful ancient and modern Chinese melodies under the direction of Mro Manoel Pirotta. Almost 300 people attended the event. The show was compered by Mrs Joyce Guillaumier, a member of the executive committee.

This was the first time that Chinese melodies were played by Western instruments. Two Chinese musicians, Luo Qian and Zhao Xingxia, played rational Chinese instruments.
