Over the weekend Marsa CC played against touring team Cryptics CC from England in a two game series.
In the Saturday game, Marsa won the toss and elected to bat.
The Marsa team was bowled out for their lowest total this year against touring teams – 108 runs. Two players, Sam Dhandapani and Sagar Krishna top scored for the home team with 21 runs each. Nowell Khosla scored 19 runs and John Grima 14 runs: none of the other batsmen made more than six runs.
For the visitors D. Wood and J.Ireland both took three wickets each. The visitors only lost two wickets before making the required runs. R.Williams scored 17 runs, J. Kingstone 39 runs, D. Wood 39 runs not out and W. Gilgrass two runs not out. Cryptics went one up in the series.
On Sunday, the Cryptics CC won the toss and elected to bat. D. Wood, promoted to open the batting, did not let his captain down. He made the first century of this year scoring a 102 runs. He scored nine fours and a six along the way. W. Gilgrass was also in the runs scoring 51 not out. J. Ireland scored 37 runs, Hutchinson scored 24 and Williams 23. The visitors totalled 290 runs from the allotted 45 overs.
The home side’s batting performance was a much improved performance led by Thomas Jones, 77 runs, Nowell Khosla 43 runs and Joy Ghoseroy scoring 55 runs. It was still not enough and the Marsa side totalled 258 runs losing the game by 32 runs and the series 2-0.
On a positive note for the Marsa team, they beat the Reading Blue Coat School in the Thursday game. The School batted first and was bowled out for 184 runs with Gordon Hewitt taking four wickets. The win was set up with a good innings from John Grima who scored 64 runs not out.
Next game is today against Stockport CC and over the weekend Marsa will play another touring team – Emanuel School.
