Malta’s four youngsters taking part in the Under 19 European Championship, registered good results on the opening day of the tournament in Prestatyn, Wales.
In fact they won nine of the 11 matches they played by yesterday afternoon.
Shaun Agius beat Sona Ball of Hungary 3-1 Pascal Camenzind of Switzerland 3-0 and N. Kalb of France 3-1 while Joseph Casha beat Vlad Alexandre of Romania 3-2 and Maximillien Koch of France 3-1.
Duncan Pisani also registered three wins, beating Christophe Koba of Switzerland 3-1 Maximillian Thur of Austria 3-0 and I. Petrovs of Latvia, also 3-0.
Thurston Grixti beat Alexander Raemy of Switzerland 3-0, but then lost to Richard Oliver of Wales 3-1 and also to A. Smith of Scotland 1-3.
There will be more matches today as the players battle to ensure their qualification into the round of 32 which is to be played tomorrow.
