The executive council of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Malta Section (Region 8) is made up of Dr Ing Carl J Debono (chairman), Ing Anton Cutajar (vice-chairman), Ing Keith Sacco (secretary), and Dr Ing Saviour Zammit (treasurer). The other council members are Prof. Charles Sammut (professional development), Ing Dunstan Briffa (membership development), Denis Vella (webmaster), Dr Ing Simon Fabri (student activities and educational development), Violet Bugeja (women in engineering) and Ing Marvin Bugeja (student representative).

The IEEE Malta Section forms part of Region 8 of the IEEE, covering Europe, Africa and part of Asia. The IEEE is the world's leading professional association for engineers, scientists and students involved in electrical, electronics, ICT and other related fields. IEEE also functions as a publishing house and standards-making body.

The IEEE has more than 374,000 members, including 87,000 students, in over 150 countries. There are 311 sections including Malta, and each year more than 300 conferences are organized worldwide. To-date, there are about 900 active IEEE standards and more than 400 in development.
