Hockey - Gibraltar’s Eagles Score another easy victory

Malta Independent Saturday, 7 April 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The BDO Euro Cup Winners Challenge continued yesterday at the Corradino Hockey Complex with a further three matches.

Certainly the top game of the day was the first game on the programme in which Cardiff University beat RCOR-MIF Minsk 3-1 in a highly entertaining match. Andrei Lazarenka put the Belorussians in front from the penalty spot but Cardiff equalised immediately through Duncan Courtney also from the penalty spot. Before halftime Martyn White put Cardiff in the lead before the end of the first half and the same White scored the third goal for his side in the second half.

The second game of the day saw BDO Hs once again in action, this time against Slaglese HC from Denmark. An early goal in the first half, after four minutes, set Slaglese on the road to a hard fought victory as the Maltese gave as much as they got. Another goal in the first minute of the second half sealed victory for the Danish side even though BDO Hs kept on trying till the end to find a goal.

The final game had little to say as tournament favourites, Eagles Hockey Club, ran out easy winners against Seinajoki United 13-0. Stefan Rodriguez and Thomas Santos each got a hat-trick, Craig Davis, Christian Laguea and Yogen Santos got a double and Ryan Casciaro got one.
