The Malta Council for Science and Technology in conjunction with the University of Malta and the Federation of Industry will hold a public seminar on industry-to-academia collaboration at Villa Bighi, Kalkara on Thursday at 10am.

The workshop, on ‘Industry-2-Academia Collaboration: A Bridge too Far?’ will present industry and academia perspectives of how such collaboration can be achieved. The industry perspective will be delivered by Mr Wilfred Kenely, director general of the Federation of Industry, and the academia perspective will be delivered by Professor Richard Muscat, Pro-Rector for Research and Innovation at the University of Malta.

The workshop will, primarily, be centred around a presentation by Professor Ghirlando, Dr Farrugia and students from the Faculty of Engineering who will present a case study of Industry-2-Academia collaboration in practice: the design, construction and marketing of a prototype open wheel style racing car for participation in an international engineering competition, Formula SAE, organised by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).

The competition challenges students and universities to develop a competitive and efficient package of frame design, engine tuning, suspension set-up and transmission, with creative marketing, cost effectiveness, vehicle testing, validation, handling and all other aspects associated with the event.
